Homemade Dog Birthday Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 very ripe bananas
- 1/3 cup all-natural/organic peanut butter (make sure it’s Xylitol/Birch Sugar free)
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 3 cups oat flour*
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups organic plain Greek yogurt
- Raw honey for drizzling
*We use oat flour because our Lab is allergic to white flour. If you can’t find oat flour, you can make it by adding 3 cups of either quick cook or old-fashioned oats to a food processor and blitzing it into flour.
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). While it's heating up, lightly grease the insides of two 8-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper for easy cake removal.
Step 2: In a large bowl, peel and mash the bananas. The riper, the better, as they'll add natural sweetness and moisture to your dog's cake.
Step 3: Add 1/3 cup of all-natural (or organic peanut butter) to the mashed bananas. Then add the eggs. Stir to combine. Add in two cups of water to the mixture and give it all a good stir making sure all the ingredients in this wet mixture are well incorporated.
Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk the baking powder and oat flour together. Oat flour is a healthier alternative to regular flour and is easier on your dog's tummy. The baking powder will help your cake rise and fluff up.
Step 5: Add the oat flour mixture to the wet ingredients bowl. Mix everything thoroughly until it forms a batter.
Step 6: Pour equal amounts of the cake batter into your prepared cake pans and spread it evenly. Bake in your preheated oven for approximately 18-20 minutes. Keep an eye on it; you'll know it's ready when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 7: Once your cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely, about 30 minutes.
Step 8: Frost – Spread 1 cup of organic plain Greek yogurt evenly over the top of the first cake of cake and drizzle with a little honey. Place the second cake on top and frost the top of the cake with the remaining yogurt. Finish with another drizzle of honey. Greek yogurt is a healthy choice that dogs love. It's packed with probiotics, which are great for their digestion. Honey is a natural sweetener that dogs enjoy and is also beneficial for their health in moderation.
Step 10: CAKE TIME! Cue the music and slice a portion of this delightful doggy cake for your fur baby's birthday celebration and watch them enjoy!
There you have it friends – a fantastic dog cake recipe that's easy to make, healthy, and sure to make your dog's birthday extra special.
